MINUTES OF ANNUAL MEETING

March 12, 2009

The Annual Meeting of JCCA was called to order at 6:55 PM after expressing thanks to Marcy Hodshire for preparing the excellent Bar-B-Q dinner. Everyone was encouraged to help themselves to more food. Maxine Van Gundy, President, asked those in attendance to review the minutes and the financial summary. Minutes were approved.

Maxine asked that The paragraph on Grants Should read" "Our effort to get money from the Conservation Trust Fund grant system was rejected because of the basic qualifications."

Motion Bob Huber moved, Sue Linton seconded to accept the minutes as modified. Passed by voice vote.

Max mentioned the new heat system and the donation of the old system to the Como Community Center. They have not made the necessary changes but they are working to pick up our old heater and utilize it in their community center.

Regarding the financial statements, Max mentioned the fact that Diana Gregory has been dealing with Steve’s extreme medical situation. She has continued, with help from Maxine, to serve us with the financial data even during this difficult time. Diana has also developed a web site for JCCA it is http://www.jccacolorado.org and has information posted for all members of the community.

We have been working on a history booklet for much of this year. It is now at a point where pictures and final details need to be compiled. We are seeking input from the community to help complete this project. If anyone would like to help on this project the Board would be delighted.

Maxine reviewed the activities that we have sponsored throughout the year 2009. These included Valentine’s dinner, a game night, four holiday breakfasts, and many private activities. We have also worked to have the heating system replaced, and moved the books to the foyer so they are always available for sale at any community activity. We also installed a new cabinet in the kitchen for keeping the coffee machines and supplies in one place. We had the floor in the community center refinished . The old tables were sold to a school. The old wood stove has been discussed and we continue to keep it for its historical value. We hope to make the northwest corner of the building into a historical center with the stove and other historical artifacts. We have taken photos of the old banner that has a beautiful mountain scene and is surrounded with local advertisements from the area. Some of the advertisements represent businesses that have long since disappeared. One auto company advertised a Ford Falcon which was not produced until the early 1950s. The banner is now rolled and sealed in a PVC pipe and will be stored for posterity. A picture of the banner will be framed and hung in the historical corner.

Maxine asked if there were any questions or comments. There was a question about the old stove and comments indicated it was part of the original facilities when the building was used for basketball games. There used to be an old refrigerator and other items in the south east of the building. The banner was hung in different locations, once on the north wall and once on the end of the building.

There was an interesting discussion of families who were part of the community and activities that took place here in the early days. Maxine reported a conversation with Lodi Eshe and found that she was discussing things that took place before the present community center was built. She had helped to play the piano and take part in the early dances. Maxine had a wonderful conversation but the recording is not of good quality. These are the kind of things that should be incorporated into the historical booklet. If there is no record of these things the stories will be lost.

Max expressed thanks to the many people of the community who have faithfully helped to serve food, clean the building and share in community activities. Without the involvement of local volunteers the activities would not be possible.

New Business:

In the near future there will be dance/exercise classes offered at the center. There will be local advertisement so watch for these classes. They will feature Zumba type dance.

Our center has a long history of being used as a Red Cross shelter. That relationship is being maintained in case of people being stranded on the highway or other needs.

Planned improvements are to put gutters over the doors to improve safety and avoid freezing of rain. We hope to install a new heating system in the school building without changing the nature of the building. We also plan to raise and stabilize the foyer entrance at the school building.

Maxine introduced the current Board members, Maxine Van Gundy, Clay Copeland, Helen Baker, Dave Linton, Robin Price and Diana Gregory. The Board currently meets monthly on the first Thursday at 4 PM the new Board will determine the most convenient time for the members. Sherrie Hull nominated Terry Hull. Terry was asked to make a few comments. He mentioned that he had served on the board at a different time and is still interested in the Jefferson community. He was elected with a voice vote. Maxine mentioned the importance of putting Email addresses on each membership form. It is much easier to get announcements out by the use of Email.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:35 PM.

Bill Van Gundy made a brief presentation about the soon to be completed shooting range that will be available off Elkhorn Road. There is interest in this shooting range from many people in our area and it is becoming knows all

Respectfully,

Dave Linton
